Robert Grey won the event, partnered by John Minta. In the Final they beat our own Max Frost (16!) and his partner, the England One-Wall Handball captain, Ady Lee, 15-7, 15-8.

Our 1st IV of Max Frost & Jimmy Goodwin, Mike Baxter & Danny Goodall won 81-75. Max and Jimmy won their Singles and Doubles comfortably; Mike and Danny gained enough points on very unfamiliar courts to keep us ahead. The 2nd IV of Rob Christie & Robert Whitehorn, Matt Blunden & Craig Baxter won 99-72, with victories in 3 out of 4 Singles. In the Doubles Matt & Craig (Year 8) did particularly well to take 21 points off two opponents in the Upper Sixth (Year 13)!

Lost 135-145 overall, but a win for the Senior IV of Anthony Goodwin & Max Frost, Jimmy Goodwin & Michael Baxter by 92-52. The Junior IV of Rob Chritie & Robert Whitehorn, Ashley Timney & Matthew Newstead lost their match 43-93. It was Ashley & Matthew's first competitive match, playing much bigger, older, stronger opponents. Anthony, Max, Jimmy and Rob all won their Singles. Anthony & Max, Jimmy & Mike, Rob & Robert won their Doubles.


DMF IV versus Manchester Y Club

22nd November 2009, Manchester

Brian Kirk & Richard Christie, Anthony Goodwin & Max Frost went. Ther Y Club could only raise 3 players: John Minta, Kevin Henry and Damian Connolly, so all games of Singles and Doubles were friendlies.


DMF VI v. Cambridge University

Stuart Kirby & Richard Christie, Anthony Goodwin & Max Frost, Brian Kirk & Rob Grey beat a Cambridge side consisting of Ladak, Malone, Compton, Hennock, Tunnard and Patel by 169-100. Stuart (1) & Max (4) won their Singles; Stuart & Richard won all 3 Doubles.


Midlands Eton Fives Tournament

Sunday, November 1, 2009, Repton School, Derbyshire

Stuart Kirby & Clive Butler, Richard Christie & Anthony Goodwin, Brian Kirk & Max Frost competed. Stuart & Clive reached the Final of the Festival (Plate) Tournament for the second year in a row, where they lost to two young ladies from the Eton-Fives playing community.


West of England Doubles

Sunday, October 25, 2009, Bristol

Brian Kirk & Richard Christie, Anthony Goodwin & Max Frost competed. Both won their preliminary round match. Brian & Richard went out in the next round to Furniss & Tristao, while Anthony & Max reached the quarter-final by beating locals Rew & Dunscombe. In the quarter-final they lost heavily to the eventiual winners, Ellison & Mohammed.


London Doubles

13th August 20099, Alleyn's School

Brian Kirk & Richard Christie lost in the second round to Dan Grant & Ady Lee; Anthony Goodwin teamed up with Jay Gravatt of KCS Wimbledon: they lost in Round 2 to the evntual winners, John Minta & Ed Fuller.


South West Open Doubles

Brian Kirk & Richard Christie competed, going out in the 1st round to Hughes & Rew.


6th DerbyMoor Invitation Doubles Tournament

Sunday, June 28, 2009, Derby Moor

Max Frost & Phil Bishop won the 'premier tournament in the Midlands', beating John Minta & Matt Orr 15-12, 15-0 in the final. The latter pair had had a hard semi-final against Richard Christie & Tim Widdop, and Matt Orr was handicapped in the final by a bruise. Nevertheless, Phil's second win in this competition (he won the first event in 2004 with John East) and a first for young Max (U15) was well deserved. Brian Kirk & Bob Sandie won the Plate aginst Anthony Goodwin & Ian Roberts.

National Schools Championships

Wednesday, April 1, 2009, St. Paul's School

Anthony Goodwin (U18) and Max Frost (U16) took part. Anthony came second to one of the favorites in his group and then lost in the Plate to the eventual winner from Sedbergh. Max got to the final of Plate B where he lost in 3 games to his opponent from Whitgift.

Wood Cup 2009. Stuart Kirby, Brian Kirk, Richard Christie and Anthony Goodwin won the Singles 44-13 and the Doubles 117-58. Match total 161-71. Playing for the Executioners were Shafin Somji, Guy Matthews, Riaz Dharamshi, Charles Lamb.

15th March 2009, Malvern

Clive Butler & Brian Kirk competed. They lost a very close 3-game tussle in the 1st round, went then into the Plate.

Rob Christie and Robert Whitehorn competed for the second time. Rob got to the last 8, where he lost to the eventual winner from Blundells. Rob and Robert Whitehorn then got through to the semi-final of the Doubles, where they lost 11-12!

Junior U15 IV v. Radley College U16

Sunday, March 8, 2009, Radley College

Max Frost, Jimmy Goodwin, Aaron Wheatley and Rob Christie played on Radley's Winchester Fives courts. 28-33 down after the Singles (partly because Jimmy was still feeling car-sick), they rallied to win the Doubles easily, Max & Rob winning 44-19 and Jimmy & Aaron by the same margin. The final score was 116-71.


North of England Doubles

28th February 2009, Durham

Brian Kirk and Richard Christie competed, going out to Manning and Widdop in the 1st Round.


v. Leeds University

Won 164-54. Stuart Kirby & Clive Butler, Richard Christie & Brian Kirk gained a lead of 44-5 in the Singles and eased to victory in the subsequent Doubles. Playing for Leeds were Rob Wiesner, Alex Wall, Rupert Parker and Alex Miller.

Postponed from the previous Saturday. Masquerading as the RFA, Stuart Kirby & Ashley Hill, Brian Kirk & James Buckhalper, Robert Grey & Anthony Goodwin lost 167-195. Highlights were Anthony's 14-16 defeat by Alqahir Ladak, and Stuart & Ashley's battle with Chris Jones & Jacob Brubert 12-15, 15-12. Cambridge won the Singles 61-36 and the Doubles 134-131.


North West Doubles

4th January 2009, Manchester Y-Club

Brian Kirk & Richard Christie competed.


National Doubles Qualifying

10th January 2009, Alleyn's, Dulwich

Brian Kirk & Richard Christie took part in the London Qualifying rounds of the National Doubles.


West of England Schools Championships

3rd January 2009, Sherborne School

Ashley Hill & Anthony Goodwin (U18), Jimmy Goodwin & Max Frost (U16) competed in Singles and Doubles. Ashley & Anthony were seeded 3 for the Doubles and duly lost in the semi-final to the runners-up. In the Singles they both lost to the runner-up as well. Max and Jimmy got useful experience in the Colts competition and did well against opposition from Alleyn's, St. Paul's, Eastbourne and Christ's Hospital.
